  • Living in Lyon

Since the Renaissance, the banks of the two rivers, the Rhône and the Saône, that flow through the city, the Fourvière basilica that dominates the city centre, and the Old Lyon, are sights that make Lyon an extremely pleasant place to live in. Lyon is not only home to many of France’s large corporations which now operate worldwide; it also attracts many international firms and organisations. For centuries, the city has been a trading centre at the cross-roads between Northern Europe and the Mediterranean South. While its entrepreneurial culture dates back to the silk manufacturers in the early 19th century, its present dynamism is based on a diversified range of modern industries: energy, chemicals, vaccines, laser technology, etc...

  • Living in Lancaster

Lancaster is the most northerly city in Lancashire. The city is located on the River Lune and the Lancaster Canal.

Long existing as a commercial, cultural and educational centre, Lancaster has several unique ties to the British monarchy and was granted city status in 1937 for its "long association with the crown".

Lancaster is an ancient settlement, dominated by Lancaster Castle. It is also home to the campus-based Lancaster University.

The historic and vibrant City of Lancaster is just fifteen minutes away from campus by bus, with hundreds of shops and restaurants, and a castle dating back almost 1,000 years. Lancaster is small enough to explore on foot and big enough to keep you entertained.

You could re-trace Charles Dickens’ footsteps, or delight in the quirky shops along our hidden cobbled alleys, listen to the cathedral bells, or enjoy live music in some of England’s oldest pubs.
